When will the NBA track the total number of points that a player assists on, instead of just the # of assists?

I has never made sense to me that a player could have an assist and the play could be up to 4 points. 10 assists that all go for 3 pointers is equal to 15 2 point assists, then you add in the fouls for the 3 or 4 point plays. I also think that potential assisted points should be kept track of, it would be nice to know the total number of points a player was responsible for as a stat.

The three point shot has bastardized a lot of statistics. Assisting a three point shooter probably takes less skill and effort than assisting a two point shooter.
But then I also have a problem with giving the three point shooter three free throws. His shot had less probability and was no more deserving of foul shots than a dunk or other two point shot.
I would also like to see the offensive team always have the option to take the ball on the side instead of shooting foul shots. Fouls should never be a reward. It really doesn't make sense to me.
