maybe because anyone who has more than half a brain and really thinks about the state of the world is pained by it. And talent is typically found in intelligent people.
Let's face it. People that think everything is just find and dandy have s*hit for brains. Shallow, grinning imbeciles aren't very attractive.

No one's said it yet. They're attracted to both his gifts/talents and the fact that she can fix him. She's usually messed up too, but differently, and she can function better. What's amazing is what she'll put up with from these guys.

They are probably attracted to their talent. My boyfriend is very intelligent which is something that attracts me to him, but extremely hard on himself which is not always a lot of fun.
