It is more boring to watch TV, but it is less expensive to put on the air then the produced shows, like Law and Order and the Office.
With so many channels out their now, they all have to compete for the media dollar - which is thinner for the big 3.

This is one of those things where, given the rise of electronic media, there's no good way to 'do it'! If you're going to run for high office, particularly President of the United States, you're going to have to play the game by whatever rules exist. Political parties, the media itself, the American public and, if you believe some of the current candidates, the Hand of God all play a roll in this mess. Basically for the last 20 years, since the explosion of right wing radio and the FOX Network, political campaigns have been more propaganda than than a process of rational selection. Here's my advice....if someone tell you that candidate A is a no good SOB, don't believe it. If you read something that says that candidate B is a commie, or child molester or 'Republican', don't believe it. 99% of that BS is....BS! Vote in your own self interest. If you're a wage-earning American, and most of us are, were, or will be, vote for the guy, or babe, that at understands that We the People are tryin' 'ta make a livin' out here. Our country isn't supposed to be in the business of 'nation building' or spending our hard earned bucks on bloated militaries that can't even permanently cream some half-@ss 3rd world country like Iraq, much less Afganistan. If we the people 'don't get no respect' from some mug that wants to be president, write the bum off. Contrary to popular belief this country wasn't 'founded on the wit and wisdom' of Jesus H. Christ...it was founded on the hard work of the American Wage-Earner and only that hard work will maintain it as a first world country. Billions for goofball wars and billions to keep the Oil Mafia spewing crap into the environment and the criminal exporting of the livelyhood of millions of Americans to various 3rd world thugocracies ain't gonna' make it. Jesus isn't gonna' pay your bills and 'your flag decal won't get 'ya inta' heaven' anymore either. Ask your canditdate, 'what's in it for me'? If his/her answer sucks, screw 'em and find some other guy to vote for.

You know, as much as I loathe and despise Karl Rove, I do have to give me credit for one act of brilliance.
He figured out, prior to the 2000 election, that there was this vast, untapped pool of voters who a) had never voted before and b) were so stupid you could convince them of anything if you just repeated it often enough.
So he FOUND these people, dug them out, and taught them phrases like "War on Christmas" and "Clinton trashed the White House furniture" and "the gay agenda".
And they sucked it up, went YEE-HAW and voted.
And the rest is history.
Castigate Karl Rove as you will, it was a moment of clarity that was unparalled in American elections.
The TV industry merely followed suit when it saw the treasure chest that Rove had opened.

It totally scares me. I am for ppl having choice and companies need to make money - but there needs to be legitament places in the media where the message is from purse strings of various groups - especially the news.

I just made a comment about that the other day. I said "what did people watch on tv before there were reality shows"?

Yes, I certainly agree with you. But, I had my TV service discontinued in September because it was so stupid that it wasn't worth the money I was paying for it. I now get my news off the Internet. I won't be missing any of their dirty-politicking, and all the mud-slinging, either!
