I had an abortion when I first met my husband(by pill). I then went on the depo shot and my last shot was 3/06 and I'm still not pregnant! I also had a breast enlargement, I don't know if that would effect me or not. I've read that you can get pregnant 18 months but why so long, should I be worried??

Infertility is defined as the failure to conceive within 12 months with regular intercourse and without contraception. You should speak with your doctor, there are treatments that might help. I don't think the breast enlargement would affect your ability to conceive in any way. As far as depo goes, it does say that some women will conceive immediately and others may take 6 to 18 months. I would speak with your doctor if it doesn't happen soon. :) Good luck!

Women who want to become pregnant may stop using Depo Provera at any time. For some women, fertility returns immediately. For others, it may take 6-18 months or longer for the body's hormone cycle to go back to normal. Going Off Depo The book Contraceptive Technology says: "It is not possible to discontinue Depo Provera immediately. Weight gain, depression, breast tenderness, allergic reactions, and menstrual irregularities may continue until Depo Provera is cleared from a woman's body, about 6 to 8 months after her last injection. After discontinuing Depo Provera, women may also have a 6 to 12 month delay in return of fertility."

First, trying to conceive normally can be extremely tough. People are impatient when they don't need to be because it can take up to so many years. But the birth control can definitely play a role in not being able to conceive a child. Birth control's screw up your body, point blank. With the pill, it tricks your body into thinking it's pregnant (when it's not) so no eggs will release. No eggs, no baby. With depo, it does the same thing but delivers higher levels of progesterone which causes the cervical mucus to thicken and changes the uterine lining, making it harder for sperm to enter or survive in the uterus. Now this is why birth control isn't always good. Your body shouldn't ever be tampered with & when you do, it confuses your body. Sometimes when you're on the pill or shot for long periods of time, once you finally get off, your body doesn't really recognize that so it continues to function like it has been for however long you're been on the birth control. Meaning.. your body forgets how to release eggs. This is common & most of the time your body will eventually correct itself but that could be the very exact reason it's been hard for you to conceive. You should really go see a doctor though, it's been pretty long.

No the breat thing wont effect your fertility.

But.....

The shot will effect fertility because it changes your hormones around a bit. This can cause a delay or infertility.

The abortion by pill may also have an effect on your fertility as well. It could have possibly caused some scaring.

I would say make an appointment to see your dr.you maybe experiencing infertility issues.

Wish you all the best. Been there with infertility

Getting pregnant can be very unpredictable. Some couples can go 5, 10, 15 years or longer and not conceive. Some never do. Other couples just seem to have a baby every time they turn around.

Have you consulted your doctor? There could be a physical reason in one or both of you why you are not getting pregnant. Even if that first pregnancy was from the both of you. Even if you have regular periods and he produces semen, that does not guarantee pregnancy.

Depo causes a lot of serious issues with a woman's body.

You may need to seek a fertility specialist. Some women have had to do that on depo (then there are those who get pregnant ON depo, or immediately after coming off of it).

It could take well over a year to become pregnant.

This sounds odd, but stop trying. My mom tried like crazy after having me, and she never got pregnant. Then my mom gave up, stopped trying, and POOF she was pregnant with my brother. So stop TRYING. Don't think about it, just do it.

The breast augmentation has nothing to do with it. The con of taking the depo shot is that exact problem. Everyone is different with some women its out of their system in 12-18mos. In others it has been longer such as 21-24mos. It all depends on how it works its way out of your system. If you are worried perhaps you should go see your physician.

Wishing you the best of luck.
