Yes. I visit for work sometimes but most of the time I visit as a volunteer or friend. If you would like to make someone smile, go to a nursing home and ask the nurses who it is that does not get any visitors. Visit that person. Make a commitment to visit the person regularly even if it is only every other week or twice a month. When you show that you are dependable they will start looking forward to your coming. That will not only put a smile on their face but hope in their heart.

Yes, once I went to see my grandmother. It was a terrible place so I never went back there. But now I go and see my aunt. She's in a great home, very clean, people are very nice, and she's quite happy there. It all depends on the place and how well it's run. Are you considering a visit to someone and are maybe a little afraid of what you might find. Mostly just alot of lonely people, anxiously awaiting a new face with an interesting story to kill a few minutes of the day with. Make the trip but try to focus on the person you're visiting instead of all the other stuff going on around you. Some of it is very sad and can leave you feeling down. But the person you're visiting will get great pleasure from your being there.

Yes. I have had many family members in a nursing home. And also many elderly friends. My kids elementary school visits the nursing home too. The sometimes sing there. And every Halloween they parade the home in their costumes. I also bring my dog to the home to visit. Many of them love to pet animals and don't have the chance now that they live there. He's a golden retriever/border collie mix and is very calm and friendly with them. They really brighten up when you bring young children and pets there to visit them.
