I was recently given a used IMB thinkpad laptop computer I am computer illiterate and dont know if it is already internet ready (I haven't tried yet) Do I need to go buy something for it? Do I need internet in my house to be able to use it? Do I need to hook it up to something to be able to use it? I do know some about a regular PC, how different is it from a PC? If anyone can help me or point me in the right direction that would be great Thanks

Ok so I have played around a little with it and it does have a phone jack it also has 2 cards 1 is a cellular modem pc card and the other is a token ring credit card adapter?? No idea what those are for I am assuming wireless? I tried to get on at my job which has wireless but no luck any suggestions? Thanks

I can't tell you without looking at it. Most laptops have a wireless card.
I suggest calling the person who gave it to you and asking questions

The laptop is just a mini version of the PC. If you turn it on and it boots up do you get to see a display like windows xp? If not you will need to get an OS operating system and if you have a cd drive you can just install the OS first. If its a gift you might not even have a hard drive yet. Just turn it on and see what happens first then go from there. Connecting to the internet you will need to call an ISP in your area, Thats internet service provider. If you can get a NIC card at staples or other computer stores if you have the INTERNET connect device. Hope this is not confusing. It just is hands on experience that will make you an average PC champ. Best Wishes!

you don't need internet to use it , but if you wanted it for the net it wound be nice to know it had at least a dialup modem in it? what OS its running, how much ram its got and the size of the Hard drive. You can turn it on and it should boot up you can play games on it like solitaire, which is a drop n drag mouse exercise not a game. How long does the power pack last, off charge? Check back to see if it has phone connection, if it got that its got a dialup modem internal.

Yes you need internet from your house , or go to a public hotspot and use the wireless internet, and its different from a PC because you can carry it anywhere, and i would check if for viruses, spyware etc, you can do that by going to download.com and look for some software thats all you need if you need anymore help contact me
