Imagine two NFL teams from the same Conference faced each other in the Conference Championship game. But what if both teams had the same win and losing record, and by coincidence they both have the same number of touchdowns through out the season and both of their percentage records were equal to each other. If that was the case, which team would get homefield advantage?

NFL tiebreakers. http://www.nfl.com/standings/tiebreakingprocedures

A good example of having to use the tiebreakers is the
1980 AFC playoffs. All teams in the AFC had 11-5 records.
AFC West: San Diego Chargers (11-5) Seed 1
AFC Cent: Cleveland Browns (11-5) Seed 2
AFC East: Buffalo Bills (11-5) Seed 3
Wildcard 1: Oakland Raiders (11-5)
Wildcard 2: Houston Oilers (11-5)

Cleveland finished ahead of Houston in the AFC Central based on better conference record (8-4 to Oilers' 7-5).

San Diego finished ahead of Oakland in the AFC West based on better net points in division games (plus 60 net points to Raiders' plus 37).

San Diego was the top AFC playoff seed based on better conference record than Cleveland and Buffalo (9-3 to Browns' 8-4 and Bills' 8-4).

Cleveland was the second AFC playoff seed based on better record against common opponents (5-2 to Bills' 5-3).

Oakland was the first AFC Wild Card based on better conference record than Houston (9-3 to Oilers' 7-5).

As you can see, tiebreakers had to be used before.

There are many possible tiebreakers, and they're slightly different based on whether the teams are in the same division or not. See the link.

they would go by Head to Head record by what your saying they would split then it would go to common opponents
the 2 teams in question if they would have ended with the same win loss record then one of them would have to have lost to a common opponent if they couldnt determine by that then it would go to a coin toss

The League would love for something like that to happen , that would show the equality in the sport
