I have had this ache on one side of my abdomen starting mid-day today. It's not super painful, but when I walk around I can feel it. My mom said she had mittelschmerz when she was younger so maybe it is that? The ache is mainly below my waist line so I don't think it's appendicitis or anything like that. I have no fever and no other symptoms besides a slight back ache. It's been 14 days since my last period. Does this just sound like ovulation pain?

About one in five women experience pain and discomfort during ovulation. The duration of the pain varies from one woman to the next, but ranges from a few minutes to 48 hours. In most cases, ovulation pain doesn’t mean that anything is wrong.

However, severe pain may sometimes be symptomatic of gynaecological conditions including endometriosis, which was the cause for painful ovulation and periods I experienced for nearly a year before I decided to seek help from my doctor and gynaecologist.

I would recommend that you consult with your doctor/gynaecologist if your ovulation pain lasts longer than three days or is associated with other unusual menstrual symptoms, such as heavy bleeding.

Good luck :)

Yes. Mittelschmerz is German for "middle pain", which often occurs when an ovum or egg is released from the ovary. It creates a slight rupture in the ovary, which is normal, but will produce a nagging sort of "pulling" pain on either the right or left side, depending on which ovary is involved. It's nothing to worry about unless the pain increases or doesn't go away in a day or two. In that instance, you should go to your gyno and be checked, since ovaries can often form benign cysts which are painful, but can be treated.

Ja vohl, das ist mittelschmerz! Boy, I haven't heard it called that in years. I get that too, but only every other month when my right ovary is "doing its thing". Take an Advil, it will help!

"Mittelschmerz" is a German word literally meaning "middle pain" so that's not very descriptive lol. I've never even heard of ovulation pain. Maybe it's just gas pains or something, see if it goes away, and if it doesn't then you should see a doctor.
