I wouldn't use the word brainwashing; more like encourage, or manipulate our behavior. For example, every Christmas, we promote Santa Claus, a fictional character who supposedly travels faster than the speed of light to deposits toys under every tree across the globe. Which leaves to reason, he doesn't have time to sit and enjoy the milk and cookies we're suppose to leave out for him. We all know he's a fabricated lie; he doesn't really exist !! Yet, we insist on promoting this myth character every year. Retail stores hire white, obese men to dress up in a costume, and make this fabricated character come to life. And its all for the mighty dollar; to boost consumer spending and retail marketing industry's profit margins. What people never stop to discuss, or let alone publish, is the lessons we're teaching young kids, when they later realize in life that this man never really existed. Some of these children will later realize that it was all about profits and the mighty dollar. Some of these children will grow up to become CEO's or elected leaders in political office. At a young age, we had already conditioned them to believe, that when it comes to the mighty dollar, its OK to lie and deceive. When they later excel to become leaders in business and politics, we have already programmed them. That when it comes to the mighty dollar, its OK to deceive an entire population, so long as its done for the pursuit of the mighty dollar.

Depends what you mean by 'brainwash'. I don't think there's necessarily a secret cabal of media types who meet and actively conspire to brainwash or propagandise in some Bond villain-style lair, but at the same time it's fair to say that Western media - like the media of any country - will inevitably reflect the conscious and unconscious prejudices of the society where it is based. Given that many media outlets are private enterprises whose primary motive is profit, it's a lot easier to report the news that people will want to hear - anything that challenges people's view of the world is likely to alienate them and make them switch channels or read a different newspaper / website, which is commercial suicide for the network or publisher. In this way, the media can end up being a lazy reflection of society's prejudices because it's the path of least resistance - there's more profit in 'preaching to the converted' and reinforcing people's preconceptions about the world than there is in putting across an alternative viewpoint. So while I don't believe there's an 'evil media conspiracy' aimed at enslaving us all, there are still plenty of valid reasons not to trust what you see, hear and read in the mainstream media without question. And I say that as a journalist of many years' standing.

Journalism, many people think, should be impartial.

It is rarely completely impartial though, the person(s) putting the stories together have opinions, the owners of the news companies have opinions (and sometimes agendas) and the anchor/reporter has opinions.

I don't know if it is all about brainwashing, it is also about how they allow politics and ratings affect which stories or shown, or how they are shown.

News anchors are being encouraged more and more to share their opinions on issues. The reason for this isn't just because of the "media" it's also because of who we watch (ratings).

We are empowering news shows into telling us one-sided stories by continuing to watch the shows that we know do it.

So.. for your project :

Personal Opinions
Political Agendas
Ratings

Mass media is a very dangerous creation that mankind created, it is a vast multicompany, that could instantly create, destruction of our surroundings with their reporting , if they don`t follow their ethics of conduct. You can`t count the numbers , of company who are irresponsible for their reporting, even , prestigious newspaper sometimes reports news , that are not really fit or not necessary item to read. There might be an independent monitoring done , but these people are like contagious disease , everytime you discover a vaccine , the virus would surely developed to much more heinous killer disease.
Readers also must be responsible reader , and must be vigilant , always , exercise presence of mind and condition itself not to easily believe media reporting.
Of course media also is not always that bad , there are a lot of things media did that warns us whenever there is an approaching danger ... like weather reporting...but almost every time they reported about the sunshine the sun doesn`t shines ......

The major media is owned by the corporatocracy which depends for its survival on favorable government policy and unquestioning public complicity in supporting policy favorable to them and their advertisers, even when it undermines the well-being of the public. The advertising revenues, read obscene profits and high-paying jobs for administrators and star anchors, major media depend on will disappear if they broadcast news detrimental to policy that favors them.

If we don't have the sense to find other sources that promote rigorous, critical investigative journalism elsewhere, we too are sucked into the lies and manipulations that are meant to enslave our minds and our consumption, i.e., wallets, choices.

Major media, which should be questioning and rigorously investigating everything governments do, have sold out to and jumped in bed with the very organizations which it should be highly suspicious and critical of.

There is so much left out of mainstream media that is critical to informed citizenry that it's mind-boggling. As inconvenient and time-consuming as it is to do our own research, we are brainwashed only if we allow ourselves to consume the lies, double-speak, and propaganda of the mainstream media unquestioningly and uncritically.

One reason and that is all the government doesn't want the People of the world to know what is really going on so we think that were ok and a global panic doesn't happen.

Not a good question. Maybe if the question is how is the media brainwashing us it would make more sense but unless you are a conspiracy theorist, I don't see how the question make sense. No one is being brainwashed
