No matter what type of internet, I would need more info to totally answer your question. Here are some starters...
First, it seems you are using a wireless connection, well if you do not have a password, like WEP enabled on your wireless, you might be giving your neighborhood a wireless connection. Example. I helped a friend with her connection and I found 23 other people connected to the internet, on her connection. They were soon dissapointed. Also, contrary to anything the hardware vendors might tell you, things like microwave ovens and other radio emitters will interrupt your wireless signal. I would only use wireless if it was last resort.
Other things to check: If you are using P2P such as limewire or bitorrent, those both use bandwidth, even when you aren't downloading.
You could have spyware or virus(s). Get a good scanner for both and scan your computer.
One last thing, Cable Internet isn't always fast, if other people in your neighborhood also have cable. you all share the bandwidth, if a bunch of people start downloading, etc. it will slow you down.
Hope this helps.

Have you noticed if it is slower in the evenings than during the day? With comcast, a cable provider, you are sharing the cable with everybody else in your neighborhood who has high-speed interneet through comcast, so the more people are on at a given time, the slower the internet will seem. This typically happens in the evenings, when many people are home from schoo/work.
If you see a definite pattern, I would address it with comcast. They can mitigate this by segmenting their network a bit differently, so there are fewer people trying to use the same bandwidth.
Here's a link to a place where you can check your speed. Normally, you want to check against a city that's near you, and a city that's farther away.
Here's the link:
http://www.speakeasy.net/speedtest/
When it seems fast, check it, and when it seems slow, check it again.

Could be where you are located. I am in southern Ontario and I have had very slow responses since Saturday, (with heavy traffic on line) I'm hoping it was due to the Blizzard that went through on Sunday and subsequent weather system. Maybe the system is overloaded. I don't know and my support system says my system is fine with no problems.

do you have a secondary program running?
perhaps one you mysteriously downloaded
I downloaded a song and got more than I bargained for
may need to get AdawareSE - a freeware scan
http://www.lavasoft.com
also - when is the last time you ran disk scan and defrag??
***********
START
My Computer
right click – Local Disc (C:)
left click – Properties
choose 2nd tab – TOOLS
error Checking – click CHECK NOW
put check marks in both boxes
click – START (NOW- you will probably get a message saying you need to restart your computer – because this program wants to be the BOSS! – click YES)
also from here
Defragmentation – click Defrag Now
Click – Analyze – within seconds it will tell you if you need to - - if it says you are ok – FINE – if not – defrag – this will put
files back into closer proximity to make them work faster – when complete
restart your computer to make Scan Disk work
Best of Luck

Resetting your router does clear all settings, but your ISP would reissue you with all default gateways and DNS servers and so the comment above mine is wrong. However he is right in saying its only a problem your ISP can fix, they may be doing network upgrades in your area (most ISPs offer the option to check your area for upgrades on their website) or perhaps which is what happened to me once, someone in your neighborhood has upgraded to a fiber connection without the ISP upgrading infrastructure in your area. Again, nothing you can do, ISP here.

It's either caused by too many programs runing at once, or a problem with the weather, like on stormy day, it messes the cable up, or something like that, I would just wait it out a little bit longer, if it doesn't go back to normal, call a person that works with those types of problems..

Its not because of your internet, its because you have to many things on your computer. You have to delete them, and if you know how uninstall some of your programs on your computer. Also Always delete stuff in your recylce bin.
