Well I have seen a UFO myself, and I just didn't happen to have a bazooka at the time. When was the last time you saw a UFO? And when was the last time you had a bazooka handy? Or even a shotgun?

WHY would you want to SHOOT at them?!?! That's among the stupidest things I've ever heard! Here's a chance to establish contact with an advanced race, a race that could teach humanity who KNOWS what, and you would SHOOT at them? That's a pretty intense case of xenophobia you've got there! If they shot first, of course, that would be another matter, but has anyone ever heard of a UFO opening fire on anyone? Not to my knowledge. Honestly, SOME PEOPLE!!!
To Mr. OUTKAST, up there. Hollywood is not in the business of portraying probable outcomes of human/alien contacts. They are in the business of putting butts in theater seats, and they do that by telling fanciful stories with dashing heroes and damsels in distress. That is all that those sci-fi films are, and I would urge you to bear that in mind if you ever encounter a UFO.

This reminded me of Arthur Clarke's cool novel, "Childhood's End." Please indulge me telling a part of the story.
A fleet of huge alien ships came to earth and parked over the world's major cities, (like in Independence Day.) They made no threats and after awhile allowed one human to be a liaison. They never revealed themselves or their ultimate purpose, only that they came in peace. They allowed the liaison on board a ship once a month to communicate. Some Soviets secretly managed to launch a sneak attack on one of the ships. The nuclear missile detonated at point blank range. The ship was unharmed. It wasn't even singed. Many people fled the cities in panic, fearing retaliation. What do you think the aliens did? Nothing. They didn't even mention the incident in their next meeting with the liaison!
I thought that was an interesting perspective.
Oh, the only attack response I ever saw that was cooler, was in "Mars Attacks." Two aliens on their ship sent out this horn-like thing to intercept a nuclear missile. When the missile blew up, the device sucked in all the helium in a huge bag and flew back to the alien ship, where the aliens inhaled it and talked in high pitched voices, laughing at each other. That cracked me up so bad, people were giving me dirty looks. Geez, who thought of that??

I can tell you right now that I'd shoot at them. Taking a hint from all the Sci-Fi films that have released over the last few decades, I have been led to believe any alien race come to our planet is probably there with hostile intent. Maybe people don't shoot because they are afraid that if they do then they will anger them (because, you know, all aliens are superior to humans in every way) or maybe they don't own a gun. ha

If there are aliens in there, I NOT gonna shoot at for 3 reasons.
1) It may not be a threat and thus should be treat like us, with respect.
2) If you shot it and you missed, you will definatly not be missed when they shoot back. They are far more advanced that you. They probably have far more severe forms of punishment than you can possibly imagine.
3) Punishing the aliens will be the invitation to begin a war.

You want civilians taping it to get in a tank and shoot at a UFO or get a rocket launcher and shoot at it? The logic escapes this one.

this reasoning is the same that would be if you were walking down the street and saw someone you didn't know and just blasting them. it makes no sense. if there are U.F.O.s running around, one would think that they would have the power/ability to turn the planet into a dustball if they wanted.
i would invite them and try to get some knowledge so we could travel the stars.

So you possibly want to start a war with a race that is obviously more advanced than we are. That doesn't sound very logical.
