Whether or not the US attacks Iran first, I'm pretty sure we will end up at war with Iran, among other places.
The reason is the extreme Islamist movement, which is not so much affiliated with any one country, as a worldwide movement.
Within 10 years Europe will be fully embroiled in civil war, if it has not been taken over by Islamists. By that time the US will be in a warlike state also, since travel is so easy nowadays.
Within 20 years we will know who won, the Islamists or the Western pro-freedom movement, or a third party.

The Iranians won't be happy about it. Iran is a technically advanced nation and would be capable of say buying a mailing list and sending weaponized anthrax to say 100,000 Americans.
The anthrax mailer from 9/11 was never caught and you will notice that the unsolved crime is never spoken of in the media or anyplace else for that matter. The government just pretends it never happened.
While I don't like the idea of Iran having nukes; we now live in a world where everybody will soon have them and military power can't do much about it.
The world has changed and we would best be very careful how we choose to throw our military weight around.

No, the US won't go into Iran, not after the whole Iraq fiasco. The international community won't let it happen this time I'm sure.
It would be totally stupid and would completely antagonise the remaining Arab nations, plus would drastically increase muslim's alienation and therefore terrorist activity.
I think the US can see so far that attacking Iran would cause far more serious problems than solutions.

I think Iran is actually backing down quietly while trying to save face. But if bombing is required, the US will do it in one night, the problem will be solved and in a week everything will be forgotten.
Israel did it to Iraq 15 years ago.
All are equal in front of the law, but some are more equal than others.
