It most likely wouldn't work, but, if I were to run for office I would spend my time telling the voters what I intended to do for them in the future. While bashing the opponent is the traditional method of campaigning, it doesn't show much taste and really displays negative feelings. I am for the most part a very positive minded person so that's the way I would operate.

Would join either the Republican or Democratic party and denounce the party system as nothing more than free press the whole time while in the party, then after not getting nominated I would quit the party I was in and run independently using the funds I raised.
Would be a slap in the face to all candidates.

Pay someone to pretend to be one of their supporters, and threaten me.
Pay someone to pretend to be one of their supporters, and have them post "Want it now" ads on ebay for electoral votes.
But then again, I'd rather boost myself as a better candidate and do it the right way, so I wouldn't have to destroy the opponent.

I guess destroying the opposition is easier than actually having to come up with better ideas and reasons for people to vote for you.

Simple, I would surprise my opponent by inviting a guest speaker to their political fund raiser, GW Bush. As soon as Bush steps on their stage, their numbers are bound to tank.
