Sometimes for certain positions a security clearance is required to work at certain organization as a computer programmer or computer system analyst. I'd estimate maybe 1 to 4 out of every 100 positions, so no not very many require a clearance. But roughly 20% of the firms will ask if you have a police record or will ask a question: Have you ever been convicted of a felony? Have you ever been convicted or prosecuted for a crime? If your record has been expunged learn what that means. That is different than a sealed record. An expunged record means it is as if you have never ever done the act and were never involved in being prosecuted or convicted - check out this exact status and remember your standing. If your record has been expunged then see if it is OK for you to answer that you have never convicted a felony BECAUSE the record on the matter has been expunged. If your do still have to reveal the fact of the event, keep in mind also that some companies that do ask about a criminal history ask for only about the most recent five years. Keep clear of trouble and apply at good appropriate smaller or mid-size companies where you will use and improve your programming skills and ask some of your college instructors for help to get that first good job at a good company.
