White lies sometimes protect people from unecessary stress. I tell some white lies to my loved ones as when they ask me what is the matter, I tell them 'nothing is the matter'. I know it is a lie but why should I worry them - since I know that it is only me who can give the solution to the case bothering me.

No. There definately is such thing. A white lie differs from a regular lie in that it is told to spare someone's feelings or prevent unnesesary pain. It is not told to worm out of a situation or to cause pain to anyone.
