These are suppose to be blow off classes. But I took the course seriously. I bought brand new sweats, tennis shoes, racket, and other equipment. The coach is also the University's Football Coach and he was really nice. I worked so hard this semester because I'm trying to get into the Nursing Program for thet Spring. But the "B" that I have in Tennis is what's keeping me from having the GPA I need to be accepted. What should I do? Grades just went in today. I called his office. He's outta town till Jan. but the assist coach told me I could E-mail him or call their secretary in the morning. I need to send my scores to the school of nursing before Jan. 7th. Please serious answers only.

I was already hanging on by a thread that's why it affected my GPA so much. Thanks

Tha argument isn't that I bought new stuff. The point is I tried super hard. And I've never played tennis a day in my life. Everyone said it would be an easy "A".

Take their advice and email him. If you get no reply by the end of the week, then go to the department chair and see if they can do anything for you.

Go back in time and take it pass/fail.

A more interesting question here is why should the coach even consider changing your grade? It's a serious question - what were the grading standards as described in the syllabus? You don't have to tell us, but I hope you have a more solid argument for an A than "I bought new stuff."

Edit to add - "everyone said it would be an easy A" is not a justification for you to go to the coach and demand an A. I hope the coach values your effort.

I'm not trying to be mean or a jerk, but being honest, you sound like you feel a tremendous sense of entitlement here. This might be a situation where you gambled on what you thought would be a sure thing, and you lost.

Sorry, but a "B" in tennis isn't what is keeping you from getting into the Nursing Program. Obviously, your GPA was marginal to begin with, or the tennis grade wouldn't have made a difference. You won't get much sympathy from anyone with that argument, I'm afraid. I had a similar situation as an undergrad - I got a B in bowling, of all things. It irked me because it seemed so stupid, when I had As on all of the "serious" classes. However, one or two units makes so little difference in a GPA that it really doesn't affect anything unless you are hanging by a thread otherwise.

What kind of GPA do you need? A B isn't so bad that it would pull down your GPA to something so low that you can't get into a nursing program. Besides, it's tennis! The nursing school is going to look at your grades and the courses you took. The tennis class? If anything it will make you look bad because you clearly don't take college seriously. A tennis class? Seriously that's worse than the history of popular music.

Emailing your instructor no matter what class and whining about how you need a higher GPA because you so deserve to be in whatever program is just lame. Personally, if I was your instructor I'd lower your grade just for that.

Tennis should be fine for you. With the level of play you see in a college beginner's tennis course, I doubt you'll be overwhelmed, physically. It might be a good challenge for you, but you should be able to handle it. Just make sure you don't accidentally sign up for the advanced class :P I had a friend in high school who was overweight, and he joined the tennis team his senior year just for fun. He seemed to be able to deal with it just fine. He was completely new to tennis, so it's not like he was playing with the varsity guys or anything. But he kept right up with the junior varsity kids.

Call the nursing school and inquire as to whether P.E. grades are factored into the GPA for admission. It would be highly unusual for a serious professional program to consider PE grades.

hope that helps,

Email the coach with a read receipt request so that you know when and if he gets it.
