Snakes are nasty and you know you are going to mess with your sister and so does your Mom.

Take your sister to the pet store and let her help you pick the snake out. Have her help you look for the prettiest one. She may still be scared of it, but letting her look at them as something of a thing of beauty may help. Corn snakes come a variety of colors, and they are very tame. Plus, if they do happen to bite you, their teeth are tiny. Getting a small snake would be better than getting a huge snake like a boa.

just guaraentee it to your mom that you won't scare your sister with a snake. What your sister thinks really has nothing to do with you getting a snake because it'll be your pet in your hands in your room. It's your responsibility, not hers

Talk to your sister about it.

My sister is terrified of snakes. I happen to breed snakes now and have about a dozen. She just stays way the hell away from my room. I'm not allowed to handle my snakes out of my room when she's home so she doesn't have to worry about them.

Well, make sure she knows that if you do intentionally scare your sister with it that you'll understand if she takes it away.. Who knows, maybe your sister will even get over her fear of snakes. I used to be terrified of them, and now I have a few as pets.. My husband was terrified of tarantulas and now we have 45 of them..
It would actually be healthy for your sister to get over that fear.. That fear is absolutely unnecessary if you know how to work around them and understand how they react.. One of the ways to get over fear, is to be around the thing you are afraid of in a controlled setting..
Here is a good article you may want to read through..

Because your sis is afraid of them, I would recommend getting a small baby corn snake, preferably of a lighter color..
For some reason, people who are afraid of snakes are less afraid of small, lightly colored ones.

If your sister is that afraid. Then don't get a snake. Talk to your sister and maybe get something you can both enjoy together.

well, my mum hates snakes and i have one. i think the best thing to do is talk to your family about snakes and that they are a very good pet to have. for instance, they are very low maintainance and don't need cleaning much. my sisters arn't keen on snakes either. i would do a lot of research though and prove that you are responsible enough to have one. i had to prove myself and show that i knew a lot about them. it took a year for me to get mine and i only got him this tuesday gone... does your sister share a room with you? if she doesn't then you can assure her that it isn't going to escape if you get one and that it is very rare they do and also that it isn't anywhere near her anyway. my family have actually began to like shadow the corn snake; even my mum! i hope that it all goes well, if you do need any help at all, please email me as i would love to help!
