Visible injuries? Any physical contact? Slap? Spit? Scratch? Bruises?
State your gender, if you don't mind.

So basically, if I punch my partner in the stomach, since he's stronger and can take it, it won't leave any scars or cause much physical/psychological pain (I'm a woman & was upset, I'm physically weaker, it's like a baby throwing punches)---not domestic abuse.
If a man punches me in the stomach, since he's stronger, I will possibly have physical pain/injuries, followed by psychological (he's a man/aggressor and abused me)---hence counted as domestic violence?

Great Q by the way ....
domestic abuse ... covers physical, psychological and emotional abuse ....
AND before I go any further I just want to state that It is NOT only women who suffer from it ... MANY men also suffer from domestic violence .. and It must be often a lot harder for them too seek help ...so please people give them a thought as we discuss this...
ALSO .. if one person hits/hurts another . .and the person they hit/hurt fights back ... THE first person really (in my opinion) really doesn't have the right to press charges against the second..
( i know i am risking upsetting other females here... ) BUT a female family member once launched into a slapping punching frenzy on her husband ....( i was there to witness this) ... now before people jump to her defense and say WELL HE MUST HAVE DESERVED IT .. let me state clearly here and now .. that HE DIDN'T... he tried to stop her by placing his arms up to block her .. she started punching his stomach ....NOTHING he did to try and stop her worked.. so he grabbed her by the throat ...THAT STOPPED HER ( n.b he didn't hurt her ... but it stopped her) ..
SHE then called the police and wanted charges pressed against him .... fortunately the police called back and I spoke to them and told them what I had wittnessed and the history of the person wanting to press charges ( as a victim of her violent personality I spoke from experience)
Violence is anything that causes you harm, or intimadates you into behaving with fear
Now some people play fight .. that's different .. but it is sometimes hard to define between play fighting and Violence . .Perhaps BETTER To steer away from it

Harm done to an individual by another family member within the home or any where.
There are people who have hair triggers and they scream at the top of their lungs to include epithets, threats and rants.
The injury to the abused person is not visible but it can manifest as illness, insomnia and depression.
There are people who "accidentally" knock someone over, pull drawers out into someone, open a microwave oven door into the side of a head, trip a person and just laugh, instead of apologizing and helping the injured party.
There are those who punch, pull hair, scratch, strangle and threaten with weapons and sometimes, rape.
There are those who kill after the hundredth slap, punch, push or menacing.
There are those that poison or cut or shoot when the victim is unaware.
I'm a woman. I know of several woman and two men who were abused.
C. :)!!

It just depends on the actual written law code legal definition. Domestic Abuse is where someone (household or family memeber generally) strikes the other person. Domestic Violence is where someone, again household or family member) causes the other person to believe that they are unsafe or going to be harmed. Usually by verbal threats. They both could have the same meaning also. Each states defines it a little differently. Check your state's criminal code and try to find the domestic code and read it. Read all the different sections and you will get the different meanings and what it takes to committ the offense. The other forms of abuse I noticed listed by other members are individual crimes of themselves. Such as the sexual assault, stalking, etc. But they are right in the apect of the type of crime.

Physical violence.
Psychological violence.
There are degrees of domestic violence. The physical side is well documented. The psychological aspect is probably far more important as that is what keeps people within bad situations. And it is very hard to quantify because there are usually factors like codependency that figure into the mix.
My gender - male.

I believe a person can be damaged if his psyche is affected, as it happens in all cases these are unseen but named in common terms like "disturbed","depressed " etc . But the worst damage that can happen is the psyche. In fact its the psychic analysis of a person which lets him make the move and decision to physica abuse , and further confidence on whether he/she can get away with it .
There are henpecked husbands as well who are equally handicapped as the physically abused woman .Both these amount to domestic violence. Like it or not, there is very little knowledge/research/materials on these kind of studies.

I personally define it as any type of physical injury intentionally inflicted by one person upon another in a cohabitation situation. I'm also inclined to include psychological torment. But that gets a little dicey because it's largely subjective.
I hope my gender is obvious.

Domestic as in the home, and violence as in unallowed physical harm, that means any force exerted upon the victim which causes a non-pleasurible sensation. It can be direct as in person-person or indirect as person-object-person.
Abuse is behaviours which are exerted in a way which causes discomfort, stress or injury.
