I was an intern at a company that laid me of today (Merry Christmas, huh?) Is it possible for me to get unemployment pay? I wouldn't worry about it, but the place I was planning on going to work is gone to be closed for 2 1/2 weeks for the holidays. I would just get a job somewhere else, but I don't want to work somewhere for 2 1/2 weeks then quit. No one will want to hire me if I tell them I am only gone to be there less than a month.

Were you a paid intern? If you had regular paid employment, you can apply. In some states, you must have worked for at least of weeks in the past 6 months to be eligible.

If you weren't paid, then no one will pay you for being laid off.

there are so many factors in unemployment. Some stimpulations include the state you live in how many hours a week u work. Each state has a different program. Check with your state office to learn about rules, deadlines, amounts, and time periods for benefits. In some states, you must apply in person.

I dont think as a intern you qualify but i could be wrong. It also can take up to 7 weeks to get ur first check.

Good Luckq

An intern, by definition CAN'T be laid off. An intern is a TEMPORARY job. You know going in it was NOT permanent.
