Videos and pictures can easily be faked. People see all sorts of natural effects that they report as UFOs. There have been many hoaxes exposed. There are probably many other hoaxes that are so clever or fortuitous that they never will be exposed.
The vast majority of sightings are explained as mundane happenings of one sort or another. This alone suggests that if the unexplained sightings came with more factuals they would also be explained.
We turn to science and that does not help. SETI reveals a profound silence. Zillions of planets exist alright but little evidence yet that any are habitable. Distances between the stars are vast and we have no good reason to believe that technology can deliver the goods to let us cross those distances. Governments around the world seem determined to prove that "L" in the Drake equation is a very small number. The Fermi Paradox weights upon us.
Yet are there any genuine UFOs? There are possibilities. Ever heard of Bracewell probes? Perhaps, a tiny tiny fraction of all reports do have genuine merit as potential travellers, but it's a pity those reports get swamped by all the noise!

A lot of people play off this idea, because they say it's entertaining.
UFOs are mysterious, sounds pretty entertaining.
