When I was a kid we didn't go anywhere for Christmas, we just stayed home and did Christmas there. Now, I have to go to the inlaws, my moms, and my dads. Thank God it is on 3 different days but sometimes I wish I could just stay home. However, nobody in my family is agreeable and they would say that if I don't bring the kids they don't get presents. I know its childish because I would still give there kids presents, it's just that I'm so tired of running. Anyone else have a similar problem?

I have thought of inviting them to my house instead but my house is really small and none of the 3 families get along so it wouldn't work.

Pinyon, I'm sorry but I do know what Christmas is about, every year I make a cake and write Happy Birthday Jesus on it and the kids help decorate it. Just because I'm tired of running around everywhere and want to celebrate at home for a change doesn't mean I don't know what Christmas is.

Yes, we have to go to the in-laws. And it lasts all day. I'm like you, as a kid we stayed home. It sucks having to leave. I just want to stay home and watch the kids play with their new toys. Oh well....have a Merry Christmas!!

Every year I used to do the same, plus we would go to a good friends house. A couple of years ago I told everybody that my family was starting our own family Christmas traditions and we were going to stay home. Everyone always told me that they wouldn't bring my kids their presents. But you know what? Everyone, parents, in laws, friends, bought presents to our house! They couldn't bear the thought of not seeing us! And, if they don't bring the presents that day, you will get them eventually. I love staying home! I cook a big dinner for us, and play with the kids all day!

I stay home where I belong, if the kids want to go visit most of my family is close so they can walk.
Also christmas is a bad time for accidents and fires so if I'm home there is always somebody to respond.

I wish we could take Christmas back to the days when it was a religious occasion, not the merchant's nightmare it's become! Maybe, if we were less stressed by looking, ordering, shopping, paying, cooking, cleaning, and wrapping, we would have more time for our in-laws, friends, and out-laws. We might even remember that this is a very special person's Birthday!

Growing up I went to my father's family first on Christmas eve...the to my mother's family later in the evening.....christmas morning we popped up early and opened presents and then shuffled off to my step-father's family. When I married my husband it was the same with his parents being added on Christmas day after my step parents.......
Now......I stay the heck home! You want to see me - this is where I am! I am not torturing my kids like that!

YES! I hate having to drive ....through traffic and deal with being at someone else's house. the whole present thing is bs. if your relatives won't give your kids presents if they don't show up,,,, so what, do they need some more sweaters or games? bs!
Invite everyone to your house, on your terms. and leave it at that!
