No, as others ave told you the station on the island is Santa Lucia. Venice isn't all that big and you can walk most places. That's a good way to get around because there are a lot of hidden gems of art and architecture that you'll run into. Another alternative is the vaparetto (water bus). You can get single ride tickets (6 euro for 60 min) or day tickets (or longer; 15 euro for a card valid for 24 hours). with the day ticket, the vaparetto essentially becomes a hop-on, hop-of bus and is the best way to get to the outlying islands - Burano and Murano are both interesting. The schedules and rates are at: http://www.actv.it/english/navigazione.php?pagina=tariffe_vaporetto

The water taxis are very expensive.

No.

You can take a train to the city of Venice, but when you exit the train station...you get on a boat to take you to the areas of the city, including Piazza di San Marco. It's the only way to get around since Venice is surrounded by water.

You are spreading your selves too thin. You would be better off spending more time in fewer cities. Something like London or Paris you could spend 5 or 6 days in alone. Keep in mind that if you want the louvre - that is easily one whole day right there. Maybe if some of you really want certain cities and other want others you should go your separate ways and then meet up back in Paris. I would combine your london and amsterdam trip as they are close. Maybe the people in your group that want barcelona should do that while the rest of you see milan and Rome. You definitely need more time for Rome to. If I were you I'd just pick 3 or 4 cities and really get to know them. Maybe london, paris, Rome. Or Paris, Amsterdam, Barcelona. Or Paris, London, Milan, Rome. Or Paris, Barcelona. Rome, Milan. Or London, Amsterdam. Paris and maybe one other - either an italan one or Barcelona, but not both. Think quality, not quantity. Check out eurorail passes. Google them. They are the way to go! The trains in europe are exceptional!

You can train in only to "edge" of the city. From the Santa Lucia train Station you'll either walk, water bus or water taxi the city the rest of the day. If you go to Venice by car then you'll get as far as the parking garages, on the "edge" of the city and walk, water bus or water taxi.....l

the nearest train station is the Venezia Saint Lucia. It is at the second stop of train stations in Venice. St Mark's Square is beautiful! beware of the pigeons! =p

It's Venice, and it's a small city, and the traffic is either pedestrian or boats as it is on a tiny island in a lagoon. You can walk across the city in 20 minutes. Bring good walking shoes.

an advice: water taxi in venice are very very expensive...so if you don't want to walk you have to pay for a taxy and it's not cheap at all. "vaporetto" is cheapest.

and if you want to go on a "gondola"...you'll pay it a lot!!
