Usually I would just ignore stuff like this, but somehow, since coming into Yahoo! Answers my eyes seem to be opening to the possibilities that petty prejudices just come to some people for no apparent reason. It is new to me in a sense, and it is like a marvel from my perspective. I do not have a friend from my country who seems to understand how to be racist, I do not understand it, I cannot find a member of my family or a far cousin who understand what feelings or conceptions cause it. Somebody tell me how does it come to people? How do they do it?

I'm apparently unconsciously racist (thanks to a test my English teacher made us take a little while ago). It's probably because I was raised in a city where people were highly segregated due to income. I was taught to stay with my own race because other races lived in very poor areas where there was a lot of crime. I was especially supposed to stay away from the black neighborhoods, not only because of this but because they were racist against whites. (Yes, a black can be racist.) They obviously didn't want my kind anywhere near them, and I'm sure the feeling was mutual. I was shocked to find out when I moved to the South that not all blacks are racist and that many are actually very friendly.

1. For some people it is taught right from the crib. Then they don't learn to think for themselves.
2. For others, they may have had a bad experience with someone from another race (they notice it more than with someone from their own race, of course because it stands out in their mind), and they haven't gotten over it enough to make the difference between an individual and a race.
3. Some people have such a low opinion of themselves that they need to compensate by finding groups of people that they can look down on. We call these "losers".

I just feel the need to tell you I'm sorry you had to endure the rath of a person of low intelligence or bad character. It's not only blacks that people ridicule. They also harass and hate other nationalities, fat people, handicap people, women with small breasts, women with huge breasts, short people, tall people, women with big noses, men with tiny noses....Do you get what I'm trying to say? They refer to bad things according to what is most noticeable at the time of the encounter..
