Wow, I'm quite surprised at how many "yes" answers there are, considering how some, maybe even most, Americans are against gays.

Yes. Racist, Adulterers, Liars, and Thieves have gotten elected, why not an honest, faithful gay or lesbian individual?

If they're the best candidate, of course I'd vote for a gay person for President of the US.

It would depend.

I like people who will let me get to know them and don't make a big deal about their sexual orientation. If a person was well-qualified and just happens to be gay, yes I would vote for them. But if their campaign platform is based upon the fact that they are gay, I feel like they are pushing an agenda on me. Why? Because I feel that a person's sexual preference is a private matter and has nothing to do with their ability to lead a country.

Wouldn't the Don't Ask, Don't Tell policy apply ? We may never know who is straight or gay. Unless it is openly admitted, many people prefer to keep their intimate personal lives private. For example - many wives found out 20 years later their husbands were gay, after having 4 kids. It isn't an issue with me.

I wouldn't vote for them just because they're gay. Just like I'm not going to vote for Obama just because he's black or Hillary just because she's female. I am all for having a black, female or gay president, but they need to share a majority of my views before I will vote for them.

Of course. Their sexual preference has absolutely nothing to do with their ability to lead the United States. It's the same thing as voting a black person or a woman president. You cannot vote for them just because of that, you have to look at where they stand on the issues and how well they would lead the country.

As long as they had a strong background in foreign policy, a solid economic plan, and the best platform in the race, absolutely.

If the gay person in question, doesn't paln on making it a huge issue of his/her presidency...sure why not?!

It would be interesting to see how many of our "conservative" military is there to fight for freedom, or just to fight for the white straight guy that was in office.

Sure, as long as he/she, was a staunch Republican and kicked muslim terrorist and communist butt, I'd be happy to vote for them. I'm gay myself but would never vote Democrat, not even if the candidate was gay or lesbian. Democrats have a serious character flaw that I can not abide. Democrats are traitors to the USA.
