My partner and i broke up 4 weeks ago, she said she doesn't know how she feels anymore and felt she had to break up with me because she didn't want to string me along if her heart wasn't in it. We had been together for four years, she is 20 i am 24.
I found out yesterday through her mother that she out of the blue told her mother she is frightened of marriage, having children and getting old!
Could this be a possible reason why she felt she had to break up with me?
We had discused marriage but we both felt that was at least 2 to 3 years away.

Yes, that is why she broke up with you. You guys talked about marriage, it scared her, and she broke up with you so marriage would no longer be "in her future" anymore. I guess that little talk made her realize how serious your relationship was getting. You could always call her and get her to tell you that, and reassure her that you don't want to get married very soon either, and that it scares you as well. If that doesn't work...oh well. You're young, and there are plenty of girls your age who would love to get married.

This may be part of the reason but isnt totally. She may have been wanting to break up with you for some time now and is only using this as an excuse, maybe she feels pressured by you and combined with her feelings, shes scared of the reality facing her. Give her some time to sort things out and see what happens, but in the meantime develop another plan just in case this doesnt go your way. Good luck and Happy Holidays

Maybe through other experiences as led her to believe this way. I am not sure, I wish I could help.

Nope. She's found a new guy, and is testing the waters with him. If she doesn't like him, you'll be the second prize.

at least she didnt say God told her to break up with you. Christian girls use that lame excuse all the time.
