My county is considering charging a fee for those who call the rescue squad (911), but our volunteer fire and rescue people are fighting it. They said it would hurt seniors who cannot afford the fee.

In India ambulances very reasonably charge.
Fire fightings are totally free. But ,when a fire fighting is over ,people give some encouraging tips to the fire fighters ( which can be used for their tea time on the way home).

The government ambulances ( especially while carrying a dead body ) charge a rate which is just dead cheap.
Except for some terrorists' activities indians are peacefully living with the simple and humble life for which they are highly used to.

FRIENDS I JUST WONDER ABOUT THE NUMBER 911,BECAUSE IT JUST REMINDS ME OF THE 9/11 INCIDENT DURING WHICH ALSO ALL AMBULANCES JUST RUSHED EVERYWHERE .
IS THERE ANY NUMERELOGICAL THINGS BEHIND?.

WISH YOU ALL A
MERRY CHRISTMAS AND
A HAPPY NEW YEAR !

THANK YOU FRIENDS.

With love from india,
Sundar

Ambulances are owned and operated by private business
where I live and have lived also. Emergency rescue is by the
county I believe and we are not charged for service. It is a
public service when you dial 911 for urgent medical care and
they take you to the hospital if necessary.
There is no plan that I know of that will charge a citizen for
this service. Yes, it would definately hurt the low income which
includes seniors. Normal ambulance service is very high in
cost. I haven't seen on on a highway in years, in fact. But I
have seen plenty of emergency trucks however.

Just the phone service for having 911, only a few bucks.
911 service is one of the best features of our nation. However, if you live in a remote area, then a few may stop a few of the prank/accidental calls/non-emergency calls.
Otherwise, I do not see why they would need to enforce a fee. If it is a tax, then I would not reelect the official. Touchy subject.

I know it is about 500 dollars to use an ambulance. But, not to call 911 itself.

There's a fee for 911 in our area, but it is part of the property taxes. My medical insurance covers ambulance service.

Yes, about $45.00. The Ministry of Health (Ontario, Canada) pays for most of the cost, and the smaller amount is paid by the person who needs the service. That includes regular ambulance service and air ambulance -- if these are emergencies AND if the person has a valid Ontario Health insurance card (most Ontarians do). Non-emergency trips also qualify if the doctor has pre-signed an order saying the ambulance is necessary.

Yes, they charge you for ambulance service. I do not know how much, as luckily I have never had to use one- knock on wood. They charge you for everything these days, even if they hand you a kleenex. I try to stay away from doctors as much as I can, as I do not have any insurance.

You don't have to pay anything if it is a real emergency . I had to call 911 last summer for my husband . He fell off a tall ladder in the garage and hit his head on the way down. He was unconscious for abour 5 min and was sitting up when the ambulance arrived. They asked if he had been unconscious because if he wasn't they would have to bill us. Luckily my nieghbour was there at the time to vouch for us.

the is a 911 fee monthly on our phone bill.. the ambulance costs (depending on company) 500-1000+... as for the areas with volunteer firefighters/first responders, there is no charge, unless of course a fire is put out, then they just bill the insurance... you also pay a yearly membership fee of 25$ to insure that the department will come save your house if it was to burn.. the volunteer departments rely soley on the membership fees and donations... they need them to get equipment, medical supplys, etc...
