Put on some Barry Manilow, clear some space for eggs, turn down the lights and let them do their thing.

First of all - a 10 gal. tank is way too small for one water turtle - let alone 2. A 75 gal. is recommended for one - larger for two. They need land to bask on under the UVB and basking lights...or at least a basking platform. If the female becomes gravid (pregnant with eggs) and there is no room and no substrate for her to lay - she can easily choose not to lay, but doing so can lead to her death. Without the right lighting - if the is not already showing signs of a calcium deficiency - once her body starts developing eggs - she will. MBD is a killer in heavily basking reptiles that do not get the right kind of lighting, temps and diet.

2 different species of turtles won't be able to breed. If it have been a Yellow Bellied Slider and a RES then definite yet a RES and Map no. If it have been the case that any turtle might desire to reproduce with the different turtle there may be RES bred with Snappers and that in basic terms isn't occurring. i do no longer condone or propose crossbreeding turtles.

The 10 gallon tank is too small and you may be seeing bullying or aggression rather than breeding.

They will not lay eggs in the water- they want to dig a nest on land. It is very rare for these guys to reproduce in the average home set-up.
