Jimi Hendrix, hands down.
Eric Clapton, Stevie ray Vaughn, Carlos Santana, BB King, Chuck Berry, all good in their own rights... But Jimi... Jimi was in a league of his own.
Played it behind his back, played it with his teeth, made that thing make sounds no one else could. I can still hear him play the Star Spangled Banner! Jimi was da MAN!

Hard to argue with the choice of Clapton!
I can't pick a best because there are so many individual styles.
I love Jimmy Page because he did so much experimentation with sounds and tunings.
I love Hendrix because he had a presence like no other player and played with such feeling.
Santana still gives me goosebumps when I listen to his work.
Jeff Beck can blow me away with his audacity.
Angus Young knows his way around a power riff as well as anyone.
The list goes on and on for me.
