I was 15 when I started ballroom. None of my friends would come with me so I went on my own and loved it. Then I started competitions and that's how I met my husband. Flexibility comes from working at it, stretch every day and try to go a bit further each time, but don't hurt yourself.

You are good age for ballroom. It's not too late. Ballroom was designed for average regular adults. It migrated from its original purpose, but the foundation is still the same - it is attainable for normal regular people. Of course, it really helps to be young. But it's not as demanding as, say, classical ballet.
Flexibility can be improved at any age. You don't have to be super flexible for ballroom. You have to be fast, but fantastic flexibility is optional. Otherwise I'd never succeed to any level.

It's never too late. Especially if you have been physically active. You're young so your muscles and skeleton will adapt. Don't become discouraged in class. There will be others who have been studying for a while so your learning curve may be steep. Just work hard and have fun.

GO FOR IT! I absolutely love dancing, and I started fairly late too, so it is sometimes awkward, when I'm one of the oldest in my class, but it's totally worth it! good for your body, spirit, and is incredibly fun once you get started. And the flexibility thing is no problem, if you really work at it, I trained really hard to get my splits (try stretching while watching TV)

It's not at all to late. If your worried about being flexible, don't be. Everyones body is different and with the right stretches and routine you'll be fine. Don't worry about your age, just go do what you want to do.

You can start dancing at any age. It might be more difficult but you can still learn and have a great time.
I danced for 15 years and my favorite type is lyrical/contemporary

Well you will never be younger so you might as well try it out - ballroom particularly is accessible for those of us who started in our 30's and posture and flexibility can be developed Lots more info here http://lissiearticles.com/competitive-ballroom-dance-dancesport/

I'm sure you can as a girl in my year said that she did it for fitness. Although I don't know if there is somewhere in bristol that does it as I live in Yorkshire. :)
