No one goes to jail for having an affair, so by not having punishments for having affairs aren't we as a society saying affairs are acceptable?

WOW!!! I'm very surprised by how many people understood that there is a difference between "morality" and "legality". It gives me hope that people aren't as close minded as I thought they were.

Laws are in place to protect property, bodily harm, civil rights and unfair financial loss.

If laws were made based off what the "moral majority" thought was morally right and wrong we would be living in a religious state where I would go to jail for watching a prono or swearing in public.

Alot of things people do aren't right but are not illegal. Affairs are a moral wrong (ten commandments). If everyone that did something morally wrong were to go to court there would be no court time for the real criminals. You can't make laws to cover every aspect of life or the government would tell you when to breath etc. The law that governs affairs comes from within.

They are morally wrong, if you try to enter into a legal bond with another that is legally wrong.
If you are able to have an affair on the person you took an oath to love and cherish in front of god and family and friends, a legal binding oath. Then it was crap and you should divorce your spouce so that you both can have a chance to find real love and happiness.

PEOPLE WHO FEEL THAT, SHOULD NEVER EVER GET MARRIED...

SOME LOVE FOREVER.. SOME LOVE FOR A FEW MINUTES...

IF EVERYONE THAT HAD AN AFFAIR GOT PUNISHED AN PUT INTO JAIL, DO YOU KNOW HOW MAY JAILS WE WOULD NEED?? AND HOW MANY OF US THAT ARE FAITHFULL WOULD BE LEFT IN CHARGE????? HOW MANY PEOPLE IN THE GOVERNMENT, LAW ENFORCEMENT, ETC BE IN JAIL, BECAUSE THEY HAD AN AFFAIR..

I KNOW MEN THAT ARE ON THE ROAD.. AND THEIR FEELINGS ARE "AT HOME I AM MARRIED... BUT ON THE OTHER END I AM SINGLE"...
THAT'S NOT RIGHT...
THESE KIND OF MEN HAVE THE PROTECTION OF BEING MARRIED... SO IF THEY GET SOMEONE PREGNANT THEY CAN'T MARRY THEM.. AN THINGS LIKE THAT.......

SAME GOES WITH WOMEN..

THAT'S SO WRONG....

BUT TO EACH HIS OWN

YOU EITHER LOVE EACH OTHER FOR ALL TIME, IN GOOD AN BAD..

AND YOU MAKE LOVE, BECAUSE YOU LOVE THAT PERSON YOU MARRIED...
OR WITH HOLD SEX.... THATS NOT LOVE..THATS JUST SEX. SO WHY BE MARRIED????

I HOPE THIS HELPS SOME...
RESPECTFULLY

No society does not say that it is acceptable just because they are not illegal. The laws should not dictate moral issues. We live in the land of the free. People are punished, the lose their family and their security.

Don't know about the world outside the Army, but if you are a soldier having an affair, they can punish you under Article 134.

as a matter of fact in many states they are, they are laws still on the books that make it illegal, but not enforced as society would come to a halt as so many men and some women would be in jail, and someone would have to be pretty young, self centered, or just plain stupid to think that you need a law to cover everything, that is morally wrong

For the record know one owns anyone and cant control what they do, As far as affairs go they have been happening form the beggining of time know it is not illegal and society does not have the right to be judge and jury. God has the last word and they will pay. it sounds like you were heart broken just move on and live your life.

Best of luck

It is a moral thing. Affairs are wrong because in our wedding vows we state to be true to each other etc. and an affair would be breaking that word.

We don't need a law to know that something is wrong.

Yeah thats a great idea. Let's make adultery punishable by law. While we are at it, we should force the entire nation to convert to islam, and women should be forced to cover their face, hair, and body so as not to entice or arouse any man other than her husband.
