If you like your job, stay there and start talking to people. Let them know that you are open. It's difficult to start a new job but if it is worth it to you, you have to join the team. If they are still standoffish, then look for something more suitable.
Good luck.

You can either:

a) Try to make an effort and mix in - smile, be friendly, ask people questions about themselves, engage in general chit chat........

OR

b) Stop worrying about it and just keep your head down and get on with your job.

I don't mix with the people that I work with, but I make sure that I'm popular by being friendly and helpful to those around me.

You don't sound like you have a very positive outlook. Perhaps you should get a different job or go back to college and train for something else. You don't have to be stuck in this situation if you don't want to be.

If you say that it's happened before then perhaps you should look to yourself and ask yourself why it's happening - is it something that you're doing? People are usually friendly and respond positively if you're friendly back. You do sound a bit miserable and negative - people aren't going to like that - it's just human nature.

I'm not sure how to help you but I agree.....,.........office politics are the worst!!

Alot of jobs I've had I kept to myself on purpose just to avoid the crap. Don't get me wrong, I've always been polite to people, chit chat and stuff but did not make any friends. I've always felt I'm at work to work - not make friends. That and it makes things harder if a friend gets fired or something.

Don't worry about it ! the strong servive , be a serviver .. keep a smile on even when the knife in your back is being twisted , once they realize you feel no pain they will set their sights of someone who breaks down easier... Be strong !!! Oh don't forget the smile , try and make it real .....

You are experiencing the dog eat dog world of work.
Not all offices are the same.
Ask other friends about their work.
Try to change your job.
