I want to try and bring back my milk but I dont know how and want to know if there are any supplements i could possibly take to restart my production. I pumped my breasts for about two weeks after the birth of my baby but got discouraged as i felt it was too difficult. I couldnt get my baby to latch on correctly so i just gave up. Now, i regret that i stopped doing either one. Is there anything i can do?

I'd suggest working with a certified lactation consultant or a La Leche League leader to get the baby to latch and get your supply back up. Good luck!

You should contact the certified lactation consultant at the hospital or birthing center where you had your baby. They can help you correct the latch problem.

You can certainly get your milk back, but it takes patience. Nurse and pump often to encourage your body to produce more milk. It all works on a supply/demand basis, so the more you breastfeed and/or pump, the more your body will produce.

You can also supplement your diet with foods or herbs that will help boost your supply. I know oatmeal is good. I've heard a lot of good things about the herb fenugreek as well.

I once saw something on tv about a woman who was adopting a baby but wanted to be able to breast feed. She had to pump her breasts, and slowly they began to make milk. And after awhile they started making the full amount.

This is, however, something you should discuss with your doctor before you start.

My daughter stopped feeding for 2 days, and my doc said that I would just have to get to to start feeding again for my milk to come back. I've heard that adoptive mothers just have the baby latch on, and it stimulates their milk supply. I would just try to have her feed again.

ps-many hospitals also have breastfeeding classes or help, you just have to ask!
