Okay, so I'm in 8th grade, and I just got the part of Grace in our school's production of Annie. (Grace is the lead ADULT female role.)

So I'm really really really happy! I also classically train my voice. I'm a pretty good actress, above average, but not phenomenal.

So would it be okay to ask my Music and English teacher why I got the role? I honestly didn't want to be Annie, because that kind of voice she would have to sing in, would ruin my operatically trained voice. So I love that I got the role of Grace.

And I just want to know the things that I did well to earn the part of Grace.

Is that okay?

Do you think they'll get offended?

All my teachers in my school are British!!!

Thanks so much, guys!!!

Happy holidays!!!

I don't see why they would be offended. If anything, they might think that you are not happy with the role. But you can tell them that right off the bat, ask them to tell you your strengths and weaknesses<<
Congrats and good luck on your production!

I ask my directors that every time I land a role. Say something like this :
"I just wanted to tell you that I am very happy with the role you have given me. I was wondering, though, what made you pick me? What are my strengths and what are my weaknesses? I was wondering because i would like to improve my wekanesses." Then say "Thank you"

I always ask my directors this and they always say that I am very mature for asking that and they can tell I am very serious about what I do.
BUT...

You obviously don't have a very good trained voice if singing one way will ruin your voice. I can sing like a guy, girl, just about any accent, high, low, whiny, etc.

I am a professional 13 year old singer and have never damaged my voice due to singing differntly than my normal voice.

I have had the role of Annie numerous times and still can sing operatic and every other kind of singing I've ever done.

Just saying...

No, just say "I'm curious as to why I got the part of Grace? Was there anything in particular that set me apart and made you think "Grace" ". I don't think its rude to ask but also thank them for the part and ensure they know you are happy with it so it doesnt look like you are complaining.

I think it is good to ask..it shows that you want to know your strong points during your audition, which could be huge in the future. You sound like you have a serious interest in pursuing this more so any criticism, good or bad, that someone gives you is good...but just make sure that if she says something that you dont like, that you dont hold it against her...thank her, and maybe even ask her to help strenghthen any weakness you might have, or even any strong points that she might think you can even better improve

Just ask nicely, like say... "I was just wondering what my strong points are." Or, "What made you pick me for the role of Grace?" I don't think it'd be rude to ask. At least my teachers wouldn't take offense to me asking them a question like that.

no! its prefectly fine to ask
just make sure you dont sound like you dont want the role
just ask what made them pick you from all the rest, and maybe get some tips from them to help you out.

always get constructive criticism
whether good or bad
its always helpful

Your teachers won't think you're being rude so much as insecure. Just take it as a compliment to your maturity and knock their socks off!
