Honorarium to play piano or organ for a wedding or funeral is about $100.00 in the Northwest Suburbs of Chicago.

25 years ago Johnny Carson was paying each member of the tonight show band about $700.00 per show. That's is for a 4 hour long rehersal and a 1 hour show.

If you are good and record your own CD and if Wal-Mart is willing to sell it and if it sells, you make whatever the royalties called for in your contract.

Which is directly related to how many sell.

It was reported on the new yesterday that a certain popular singer makes an average of $700,000.00 per month in record royalties.

In a year when a new CD hits the top of the pop charts, this singer's income was in the $200 Million per year range.

So if you can play the piano and sell as many CD's as Britney Spears sells CD's, that's how much you'd make.

Right now I have a CD on sung by another cute blonde who has a fantastic set of pipes.

She's so good that I drove 90 miles last weekend to attend a concert of hers and then I spent $50.00 to buy every CD and DVD they had for sale which I didn't already own.

If you can learn to play like Dino, you'll do fine.

A pianist for what? A church accompanist? A concert soloist? A choir ensemble accompanist? A pianist who accompanies soloists?

Most musicians don't make enough off of playing to make a living. Now, if you're lucky enough to "make it" and be a sought-after studio musician or concert soloist, you can probably make a substantial amount of money; however, if you're like the other 97% of the musical world, you don't.

Musicians are very rarely paid any salary. You work on a play-for-pay basis, whether solo or in a band. Even if you get signed to a label, your money comes in when your work gets out and heard.... and if no one is listening, you won't get paid.
