Because of discrimination, gay people are more likely to feel other people's pain and because of that they are more involved in human rights organizations, civil liberties organizations, anti-poverty organizations, etc. Is my impression correct?

Well, there may be a statistically significant difference between gays and straights on that score, but I don't think it's all that large. For one thing, lots of people besides gays experience discrimination, or are sensitive to it because their friends and/or relatives experience it. And many are humanitarian just because they have concluded it is the right thing, philosophically or spiritually, even if -- or perhaps because -- they are fortunate enough not to be a victim of injustice themselves. After all, people who have it good often realize it is their responsibility to share their good fortune with those less fortunate.

Now if you say it the other way, that straight people are less humanitarian, or that most of the bigoted and selfish people are straight, your statistics might be more impressive. But we are, after all, just speculating here. I doubt there has been any reasonably reliable research done on these variables.
