I remember when I was at my grandma's last Thanksgiving and we started to look through old photo albums. And to my surprise, I saw about 15 people dead in a casket. My grandma actually took pictures of these dead people at the funeral home during visitation! I have never heard of anyone doing this ever. Is this normal?

I meant to say, "about 15 dead people in caskets." Sorry for the confusion.

well, a little. i took a picture of my deceased brother, i don't know where the picture is now though. i don't frequent funerals, but grandma must have a underground / undercover job.

maybe the mortician person would have a lot for the records but, GRANNY....... what's in your wallet?

I think in your grandma's generation it was a much more common thing than it is now. I now my aunts (over 60, all of them) record the funeral services and pass out cassette tapes to everybody in the family (I have no idea where mine are, nor do I care if I ever find them). They also take pictures of the grave site with the coffin sitting on the top. Yeah, these things are morbid to me -- but I also think funerals and the visitation ritual are barbaric.

It is normal in some cultures. A cousin of mine has a picture of her son that she lost at birth in his casket. And just recently I went to a funeral of a friend's Mom and they took pictures of her in her casket. It has something to do with a belief in saving their soul or something....dunno, something like that. And also family history.

I actually had a conversation with a psychologist about a dream very similar to this one. It's kind of eerie, actually, because she said that many people have it frequently, and it isn't a very good sign. It actually dates back to Mayan civilization. There have been depictions of it on walls in many early civilizations, as a matter a fact. I myself have not had the dream, but my psychologist actually believes that this dream links together gay people. I can't explain why, exactly, but those with homosexual tendencies tend to have this dream repeatedly, with the first time representing the peak of their gay.

For some people it is. They sometimes just want a keepsake of that last time then saw them. My mom has a photo album with my pictures of my grandparents funerals.

No, my grandma doesn't do that but she does have a weird way of taking pictures of people. She doesn't wait for them to pose. She just snaps it randomly and if you're lucky, you'll have a good picture. There are about 8 pictures of me with food halfway into my mouth and plenty more with my mouth open and my eyes closed.

WHOA! II guess people are doing this more and more (along with putting funerals online), but I'd save such morbid pictures for a seperate album, for only real close family members to see. (Did I mention, "YEECCHH"???)

It's common with older people. My grandma had the same thing. I never figured out why in the world they would want to remember someone that way.. but hey, to each their own.

Not at all. I have a couple of my grandma and I even got it on VHS-C. Some day I can show it to my kids and their kids so they can know who my Grandma was and how she left.
