The file can be corrupt, or "write protected", or may say, "file is being used". In your case I have seen files say "cannot read from source or disk".

Have you tired to go to start, run and type in: c://program files and click on browse, open program files and look for "Real Player", and try and delete. If the file states any of the above and will not delete, reboot and go back and try again. (If still will not delete ctc. me and I will direct you to software that is free to delete a write protected file & instructions on how to use the software).

Now go to start, search and type in: Real Player, and let your PC scan for all related files. Delete from the top to the bottom if possible. If some files don't delete, then reboot and try again as this will usually work.

You can also go to your registry. (Only recommned this if you consider yourself an expert). Otherwise I suggest you don't try and delete from the registry, if you remove the wrong keys you may have to reinstall your entire platform.

Only perform this task if you know what you are doing.

Go to start, run and type in: regedit and click on "OK", and your registry will open. Now open HKEY CURRENT USER, now open "software", and look down the list for "Real Player, and delete all associated keys for "Real Player".

Windows cant delete files or a program that are “live”. This means the program or some elements of it are actually running. The program or one its services may be running silently in the background or being shared with another application. To disconnect all applications associated with the program, Press Crtl-Alt-Delete time to pull up the task manager. You will need to disable all the services associated with the program. Here is how:

1. Open your "Start"menu.
2. Click “Run”
3. In the command screen type "msconfig.exe"
4. In the "system configuration utility",click "service"
5. Uncheck all executable(.exe) files associated with the program you want to remove.
6. Click "OK"

After this procedure you may be able to use the program uninstall feature to remove the program.

I have had that happen before and the reasons are as follows:

1) The file has already been deleted... (Press F5 to refresh or Right click and click refresh)

2) The file name is to long... In this case you need to goto the command prompt and then to the directory the file is in and then use the "del" command with the first seven characters and then a * and a . and *

A program you can use:
Unlocker.

It's a free program that lets you delete files, if they can't be deleted because there's a process hook or something. :)
