You could say A is for Ace and in cards that is the highest. On the otherhand you could see as Alpha, which would be 1 or first, by that logic Z would be highest. There is no sure answer, Is there?

Z - because we 'say the ABC's' in this order - A, B, C, etc
we count in this order 1, 2, 3, etc
Therefore Z is the highest

That's dumb...but in Scrabble, whoever has the first letter alphabetically goes first so I'd use that rule, since it means something.
(I guess I could justify this by imagining the letters in a vertical list.)

I HAVE ALWAYS ASSUMED "A" BUT IN A DICTIONERY THE PAGE NUMBERS FOR WORDS BEGINING WITH "Z" ARE WAY HIGHER THAN THOSE OF "A" WORDS
