I am a very ambitious and driven person. However and from time to time, motivation seems to lack. It may be because of an event in my life, for any other reason or for no reason at all. However, being pretty analytical, this is what I make of it:
Motivation is a feeling. It comes and goes. Because of this, you have to know how to change your perspective and how to "mess with" your mind.
The real question you have to answer is "What do I want to do?" and then ask "what will motivate me to go get it?"
For example, the only reason why you are motivated to go to work (as much as you probably don't want to) is because of a reason called "money". You know you need money and to pay bills. You know that if you don;t work and get money, the bills will not get paid and you will be out on the street and have nothing. Therefor you are motivated to go to work even though you don't "feel" like it.
(If you do not work or don't have bills to worry about, relate the same to schooling and the lack of education or the fact that you talk to certain family members or friends even though you don't want to but you do to maintain the relationship, etc)
So, define what it is you want (more money, a new house, more friends, a better spiritual life, a better job, a new girl/boyfriend, etc).
Once you have identified what you want, you need to decide why you want it.
Then remind yourself everday what will happen if you do not get it. This should be a start.
Remember, no one else is going to do anything for you. One day you will not feel as you do today and you are going to regret having wasted so much time "feeling" unmotivated and not doing things in spite of that feeling. By that time, time will be gone and lost.
Don't waste time, we only have so much of it available.
Oh yes, one last thing; I find prayer really helps!

how old are you... what fires you up.. what are you passionate about... a lot of the time laziness stems from too much free time... get your self involved with the community, sports team, organizations, etc... i think the most important thing is finding something you enjoy and building around that...
i would also say set some goals; and this is the perfect time of year; give yourself 5 goals to accomplish by the end of Q1 (march)... then additional goals for Q2, Q3, Q4... set some financial goals, personal goals, work goals, physical goals...
good luck.

The trick to motivation is to get up and walk around the room ,, the more often you get up on your feet the more your heart will beat ,, so more equals more ,, the heart is the key ,, move it move it move it ,, it will even help your thinking prosess .. the motivation to get up is , done only by drudgery and force ,, you force you not to be motivated just to get up and walk around the room ,,, every every every chance you get ,the more you do it the easier it becomes ,,
