CVS will not allow me to buy alcohol even though i am 24 years old. They claim that foreigners without a canadian, mexican or american ID are not allowed to purchase alcohol in New York State by law.
Wouldn't that mean that foreigners are discriminated against? Why shouldn't I have the same rights as any American, Canadian or Mexican when it comes to alcohol?
I would be very happy if anyone could send me any sort of information on this topic.
Thank you

They are not required to accept any identification that is in a language they do not understand or that they are unable to verify as authentic. As passports from all countries contain an English translation and are accepted world wide, your passport will work.

No it isn't true, but the only I.D. acceptable under New York law for non-Canadian foreigners, including Mexican Nationals, is a passport.

"What is acceptable proof of age to purchase alcohol in New York State?

A valid driver's license or non-driver identification card issued by the Commissioner of Motor Vehicles, the Federal Government, a State Government, Commonwealth, Possession or Territory of the United States or a Provincial Government of Canada; or a valid U.S. passport, or valid passport of any other country; or a valid military ID from the U.S. (Section 65-b.2(b) - ABC Law)"

I agree with David. Passports are the usual solution, so is getting a local state ID or drivers license.

I am not aware of any restrictions on where you are from, only that they are comfortable that the id is real. Would *you* be willing to accept any id form anywhere if you could go to prison and lose you business and money TONIGHT if you were wrong even once?

I am sure there are other places in town to buy liquor too :)
