I have an Ice maker that is not making ice. I checked the pump and it works fine. Is there a way to test the ice maker to see if it works or not. I don't want to buy a new ice maker and not have that be the problem.

Ice makers some times are a pain to work on.One of the most comon problems is the water inlet valve on the rear bottom of the fridge if the inlet is not working the water won't get to the ice maker.and also the inlet has a screen to collect lime or partacals you might check that to make sure nothing is blocking the water flow into the tubing. The ice maker it self is complacated to explane but it could be a few things to check the thrmostat, timer motor, control arm, maybe no power to the ice maker.

Could be a number of things. It is possible for the water line that fills the ice maker to freeze. This happened to me with a new GE refrigerator once, when we were on vacation for a couple weeks. All the water lines froze. We had to shut it off for a day or so to let the ice melt.

Another thing could be that the arm that senses how much ice is in the hopper is stuck. When the hopper gets full, the arm can't come down and it shuts off a switch that disables the ice maker. Or, it's not actuating the switch.

Another problem I've seen is that the ice in the cube tray is stuck and the arms that clear the ice out are jammed against the ice. This will stop the whole ice-making mechanism and will eventually burn out the motor in the icemaker.

Or, your icemaker motor has gone out. Look at the position of the blades that clear the ice tray and note where they are. About an hour later, look at them again. They should have moved significantly (they go full circle every few hours or so). If they haven't moved, the motor is likely burned out.

If your refrigerator is about 10 or more years old, you should get new one. The newer ones are so much more energy efficient and it will be under warranty.

I used them for a similar problem on my refrigerator. They were very helpful. They even link you to the websites to buy parts, if needed.

Besides being frozen, the filter in the waterline could be plugged. Both has happened to mine.
