As the democratic candidates continue to promise more medicare and social security reform, they have forgotten how the social security is paid for. working class! But unfortunatly, the working class is going out. the baby boomers are retiring. there are about 78million boomers retiring in the next 7 years, but no one to pay for their Social Security because most of them are dead.

Yeah. That's some incredibly stupid logic right there.

First, you typed the link incorrectly: http://www.newsweek.com/id/78426/page/1 . Also, the article mentions nothing about abortion.

2. Do you actually want our population looking like India and China's?
3. Oh, where ARE all these good working-class jobs in the U.S. you're talking about? The manufacturing jobs? The ones that are secure and full-time and pay well? I think they're in China.
4. Wealthy developed countries - this includes Europe (where abortion is also legal), not just the U.S. - have significantly lower birth rates partly because women are actually allowed to work and have lives. The wealthier the population, the lower the birth rate. This has nothing to do with abortion. Throwing women in jail for having abortions and forcing them to bring babies into poverty is not going to help the *******-up Social Security system.
5. The U.S. birth rate, in spite of abortion and everything else, IS and I believe has been increasing steadily by 1-2% every year. The population IS increasing.

You're absolutely correct. America needs younger people working and paying social security to finance older people's s.s. payments in retirement..

In this respect, Japan has a much greater problem and Russia is plenty worried. Far too few babies are being born and their populations are rapidly aging.

Not enough workers is the main reason that Western Europe allowed so many immigrants into their countries. While their birth rates are in decline, Africa's and the Mid-east's are soaring. Now Western Europe is facing culture clash with Africans and Muslims. There is a severe back lash to their quick fix solution.

I have a 19 year old son who is just starting out in his career. Paying his taxes. Unlike me, who started working full time at 13 1/2 years old, his benefits will not be there when he needs them... That's a concern. Abortion isn't the problem in my opinion. Go to a Free Clinic one day and watch. See who is coming in for free medical benefits in addition to their Medicare/Medical benefits. Illegals. If 5 million rats jump on a dingy boat, it won't be too long before that boat sinks. That is where we are at. In addition, the illegals with illegal documention are using someone else's Social Security number. Stolen. No regard, no care at all. Sorry. They are completely fu*&^%g up their credit, identity, etc. I don't care how nice they are or how harding working they are - they are breaking the law and sucking the very life out of this country. Wrap your bean around that. It is a serious problem that needs to be addressed.

While I believe it could have an impact, I see this as just another way for certain groups to directly link their belief/cause to an economic impact. I can assure you there are enough unplanned births that will offset it. Hollywood alone supports the trend. Britney Spears, her little sister....and if we really want to get down to it--are we sure these little rugrats are even going to work in the future? No. So, to depend on a small segment of the population for the future of social security is ludicrous. After all, take those people that have abortions due to lack of financial resources which is A LOT--they are going to be depending on assistance from the government because they weren't financially able to raise that child. So, I don't believe it hurts social security in any way.

Yes it is. I think we should force all the 16 year olds who get knocked up to remain pregnant. And then hook those born babies to corporate machines from the time they are born to produce energy in this country that will in turn pay for that social security. That will teach them anti abortionists a lesson or two on the virtues of corporate capitalism.

Better yet, if our country would stop allowing corporations to ship off the good paying jobs (tax free) to India, China, Mexico etc. we wouldn't have that gap. Instead, we have a declining middle class and $7.00 an hour jobs replacing those middle class jobs that helped pay for that Social Security.

Yes.
But Democrats don't care.
They will just raise Social Security Taxes on everyone's Paycheck.

I'm sorry to say this, but...... Democrats know what they are doing. Doing to us!!!!
It's all PLANNED OUT!.

**** "Zardoz", needs to do some studying. It was the Democrat Congress and Jimmy Carter that made it possible to Raid Social Security.
IT WAS A DEMOCRAT THING!!!!

I guess that's why Bush let 20 million illegal aliens enter the country.

Our planet won't be able to feed the increased population in foreign countries. There are bigger issues than Social Security. If Reagan, Bush, Clinton, and Bush hadn't raided Socail Security there would be nothing to worry about. It still runs a surplus today.

By that logic, changing the immigration system to make it easier for people to immigrate and pay taxes would make a great deal of sense, since far more people come here to work than are lost to abortions.

Since there have been 40 million abortions since the 70's we now have a gap of 40 million workers who could have been contributing to the pot. That' is why the politicians are so hell bent on giving our country away to the illegals.

What?

Abortion isn't why, it's called the Developed Country Reproductive Trend. Women have fewer children and wait longer to get educated.

You need to do more research.

If the whole world were on America's rate we'd be extinct in 1,000 years!
