this is for anatomy class. I thought all worms ate soil. Please help

well i dont know about earthworms....but red worms...and nightcrawlers eat poo poo and rotting things....they have mouths but they absorb food through their skin...its also how they breath....they cant breath in the light its why they stay underground....my dad raised womrs for years ...hes worm beds were made of cow and horse poo....he aslo gave them a little bit of livestock feed( dont remember what ) and cardboard...they really loved the glue on the boxes....the worm beds turn into high quality fertilizer from being mixed with worm poo

The easiest way to find out what an animal is eating is to investigate its excrement. All the indigestible bits pass through and show up in the poo. If worms are eating soil, you should find grains of sand or other indigestible soil stuff in the poo.

if it's alive, it's been eating soil. the thingies it poops are called castings and they're good nutrients for plants

try dissecting it, I did and I found soil in the body clumped up with the rest of its organs.

they do eat soil. when they poop it out it is called fertile soll!
