We have this trinomial:

w^2 + 20wm + 96m^2....There is a typo here. The middle term should be 20m NOT 20wm.

We are told to factor this trinomial.

What two numbers multiplied together produce 96 but when added produce 20?

Well, 12 times 8 = 96 and 12 + 8 = 20.

We found our numbers.

Final answer: (w + 8m) (w + 12m)

well what two numbers add up to 20 and multiply to give you 96. So you do it and it is 8 and 12. So yes your answer is (w+8m)(w+12m)

8+12=20
24+4=28
6+16=22
(w*w)+(w*12m+8mw)+(8m*12m)=w^2+20wm+96m^2

use foil
w*w=w^2
w*12m=12wm
8m*w=8wm
8m*12m=96m^2
w^2+12wm+8wm+96m^2
w^2+20wm+96^2
