In my last job I had a great desk near a westerly facing window so most plants survived. In my new job I'm nowhere near any windows so the only light a plant will get will be from the fluorescent bulbs.

Ideally I'd like a nice, smallish plant, that will grow and need some pruning now and again. Also if it could grow something (fruit, herbs, flower, berries, etc) that would be great.

Any ideas?

Most if not all house plants thrive on florescent light, along with a bit of sun. Pothos or devils ivy does wonderful in any kind of light and grows quickly. Some palms can do well in an office setting, looks good too. Good luck!

I think you are being a little ambitious - most edible plants and flowering plants need lots of natural light ... with the exception of mushrooms!!! Spider plants will grow anywhere, also Ivy as the previous person said.

when you go to Home Depot or wherever, look at the plants inside the store. those outside, even if shaded by screens, need more light than you can give them. I doubt anything will flower but perhaps with fertilizer (not manure -- this just serves to attract those nasty little flies)

Tropical houseplants would do well. Plants like zz plants, philodendruns, ivys, pothos, spider plants, etc. would do well. For a little color, try African violots, kalanchoes or begonias.

There is a succulent called, Rock Cactus. No thorns, pretty orange flowers and it looks like a rock. You don't have to prune it though, but it gets bigger and has babies.

Philodendrons (or however you spell it) will grow very well in that kind of lighting. They only need watered once a week too. Hope I helped.
