If you are canadain you have up to 10 Emergency unpaid sick days per year, this is over and above what your union has collectiely agreed upon with the company you work for. As an employer i will put you on notice after 3 sick call ins and after that i have the right to ask for a dr note anytime provided we have spoke about this I would check into your the labour laws that cover your area, remember there must be a reason for this question r u trouble for the people you work for, you may think not but what does the general population think of your attendance level? for every action there is a reaction what was your actions

Hate to tell you but in the US I think it's legal. It's because of all the deadbeats that don't feel like showing up for work. I know there are people out there that really do have health problems but, since some people have really abused the system the system had to change.

Generally, sick leave is an employment benefit, not a legislated right. Your employer doesn't have to offer anything other than federally or state mandated leave. They can apply any rules they want to how or when you use that leave.
