My sister called me sobbing a few days ago and told me that the city (with no word or community meeting to discuss the matter) cut down our city's oldest trees (7 in all) they were huge Sycamores , perfectly beautiful and healthy that are 100 years+ old My great-grandparents witnessed these trees being planted years ago, and they were loved by all. Their reason for this is Too many Crows were roosting in the trees and pooping on the sidewalk below!!!! there are many ways to humanely erradicate Crows, which are a problem, but have always been. They also had the money to get rid of the trees but never used it to properly prune them yearly to keep them from growing too tall(crowes like to roost on tall trees) The leaves could have been raked by volunteers which I would have gladly helped out, I think it is just bone lazy that they chose this as their solution, it is too late to save them now, but I want to get input on what could have been done in case they get ideas to Execute more

As at Berkley, you could take up residence in the trees to stop them from being cut down....
But on the other hand, 100 year old trees can be transplanted. Although this is very costly. But with the community banding together you might be able to come up with the funds to move them to a park.
I would first ask to speak to the town or city manager. Ask to be notified prior to any more trees being cut down. At least a thirty day notice, but a 3 or 6 month notice would be better. Also demand that they have an open meeting in the future about any trees that are to be removed.
Get the community together and fight back....especially when it is time to reelect these people.

I would form a party of neighbors and find out who gave the final word to do this and hang em high!
Wow, true idiots! The ones that are elected officials, make sure you get the news papers involved and voice your displeasure about these folks who had a hand in it. For the hired hands, make sure some form of repremand there too.
Find out who was the one that brought to the cities attention, I will bet it's someone living near those trees with clout. Name them in the news, really make a big stink. Then, they'll think twice before ever doing this again.
So sad.

It's too late now, unless your city has some more super-old trees you want to protect.
Simply put, if the trees are on city property you really have no say in the matter though.
Anyone who cries over trees has some serious problems.

No it doesn't justify cutting them down. City councils seem to becocome tree experts when they know very little if anything about them. In my town everyone woke up one morning and all of the trees on mainstreet had been cut down over night like a secret covert mission. I have never seen everyone in town so angry before. Well angry for the same reason. Make them replant trees. City councils everywhere need to get over their power trip.

I am sure that there is a "tree saving society" out there that should have some pull to stop this, however, if they are the city's property, then they can probably do what they want. Do more research for tree huggers.

Who gave you an assignment like that? Is this how time is being wasted in classrooms? How about some spelling and grammar lessons? If you really mean "its" freedom, it doesn't have any no matter how old it is. And it doesn't have rights either in case that's the next assignment you get. I'm hoping you didn't understand the question. In any case, don't twist your brain trying to find an answer.
