Make sure the power is off to the light switch. Turn it off at the main breaker box to the house, not just the light switch!
Get a circuit tester, which helps to double check the power is off (a hardware store can help you find one, they're not that expensive and helps when doing these jobs in the future).
Revove the screws and the whole light fixture.
There should be a black and white wire, untwist these and discard old fixture. Replace new fixture in the opposite way, twist together black to black, white to white. There may be a third wire for a ground, that most likely connects to a little screw in the new fixture, or to a ground wire. Use electrical caps to cap off all the exposed wire connections, and then tape each connection separately with electrical tape. Then screw in the fixture. Make sure you get the same exact fixture to make it all easier.

if u are not sure, dont attempt it,cos when you takethe fitting off you can find as many as seven cables, and all the same colour, ask a freind or relative that is compitent,if you go ahead you could start a fire in the middle of the night, there are lots of things that can go wrong, and the light may be looking as though its working perfectly.

It's not difficult, but if you don't know what to do, find someone who does.
