i'm usually brutally honest, i don't want to hurt anyone's feelings, and i avoid it at all costs, but if they come out and ask me, then i tend to tell them the truth, and if they get mad, i tell them, don't ask if you don't want to know the truth. but i'm not perfect, and i have told lie's before, mainly to get out of having to go somewhere or do something i don't want to do, but don't want to deal with an arguement either. i know that's wrong, and i shouldn't do it, and it's rare that i do, but you asked, so i'm telling.

It really depends what it is on. If my best friend comes into school looking like a clown, I'd pull her to the side (to not embarrass her in front of everyone) and let her know. If it's about other things, sometimes I'll use a little white lie. This actually happened. A friend of mine who is extremely overweight, probably obese, has been seeing a personal trainer to lose the weight (which I think is great) and she told me she had lost 33 pounds already, and asked if she looked different. It honestly looked like she hadn't lost one pound, but I lied. "Oh I can tell! You look so great, keep up the good work."
It really depends on the situation. Sometimes if it's unnecessary to tell the truth, I'll spare their feelings with a little lie.

Yes i was brought up to tell the truth about everything, its something i believe in deeply, my worst pet hate is when someone tells me lies,(and i can spot them a mile off)
Sometimes the truth hurts, but when they realise what you said was right they will respect you more than if you lie. and example if your best friend wanted you to say what they looked like in a certain thing they realy love but you know its awful, tell them the truth as down the line they will know you lied and will loose any respect for you and wont trust you again.. Thats just a small example.

That's a tough one. You need to use discretion on when the good outweighs the bad in situations like that.
I would rather say "this length of skirt is more flattering for your figure" than say that mini skirt makes your legs look like elephant trunks. Or say why don't we try one size up in that shirt, rather than say I can see all your rolls when you where a shirt three sizes too small.
There are ways to get the message across without having to be offensive...most of the time anyhow.

I would like to say, i always tell the truth if i can. But i hate to offend people, so i tend to just be quiet when i am fibbing, and i think if you knew me, you would know!
I have been in trouble for being to honest in the past and have learnt from my mistakes! unfortunately , the truth sometimes DOES hurt!

I'm always honest. I'd rather be told the truth about everything, so I do the same for everyone else, even if it hurts.

i consider my motives. if it's hurtful, but i feel like my friend needs to know for their own good, then i'll tell them. and i would want my friends to do the same. but if i know i would feel pleasure at hurting their feelings by saying something harsh-but-true, then i shut my mouth....and reconsider the friendship.
as a rule i tell my girls that if they feel good about making someone else feel bad, then they are not doing the right thing. you should feel empathy and it shouldn't be too comfortable to tell someone a harsh truth.

It depends on what the truth is. If a friend asks if she looks fat in an outfit and she does I'll tell her, if a friend gives me a really crappy gift I would lie and say I love it.

I think it's always best to tell the truth then hide it when you hide it the truth becomes harder to tell then when you do have to tell the truth it does hurt more..kinda like pulling off a band aid when you pull it off slowly it hurts more
