Two teachers have been suspended from a school in Kent over claims they tied up a student's arms and legs.
Folkestone Academy said it was alleged the sixth-form pupil was bound and left on the floor for several minutes in an end-of-lesson "prank" in November.
A letter to parents said staff were told in December about the incident.
"Although this incident may have been intended to be good humoured, the academy sees the alleged behaviour as totally inappropriate," it said.

your views on this, is it just another over reaction

Given that all involved seemed happy to let the matter lie I think it should be left ........

If on the other hand the boy or his parents filed a complaint, then thats a different matter.

The incident was originally a prank by the teachers

The problem was that it was filmed by other students

the child would have consented and i believe it was all in good humour

The problem we have is the rules and regulations and this action can be viewed as abuse or bullying

Reading what i have i do not see any sinister undertones and i believe it was the actions of an inexperienced teacher who bonded well with the class

When my son was assaulted this year by a teacher she over stepped the mark as she reacted badly to a situation and was way out of line

I think the school had no choice but to sack these guys even though they had not lost control and acted out of malice

Teachers hands are tied today by rules and regulations and it is a no win situation

I feel the school will have lost two good teachers as not many teachers these days can bring humour into the class room for fear of reprisals

the school have to been seen as taking action and they had no choice

I live and work in Folkestone and have a friend whose son attends the Academy.

From what I've heard it just all been blown up out of proportion.

BTW, to the poster who said it is "one of the more priviledged schools in the country".........it's not. It's a secondary modern school that used to be called Channel High! They got a new school building and now they're pretending to be something they're not.

if it was a prank and everyone was enjoying themselves and no harm came to my child I wouldn't make a big deal about it. As long as they didn't do it to be mean I would fine. If not I would kick some teacher butt!!!! However you know how everyone likes to go overboard and blow things out of proportion the teachers will lose their jobs and the parents will end up with some sick amount of cash.

Yes, I would think possibly another media hyped-up and inaccurately reported over-reaction. This is supposed to be one of more privileged schools in the country after all.
I have also just answered a question about all the children who are getting killed and injured in the Middle East at this very moment, so maybe we should get our priorities right.

If it was a prank and the boy and his parents are o.k. about it then thats the investigation over and done.
Probably the school ought to warn the teachers not to repeat that particular prank.

Just a silly prank a word by the principle would have dealt with it instead of wasting police time. Don't take any notice of me I've been tied up many times

UK... I am sorry, but lots of kids need it in the real life more than all that safety around them... Discipline. In old schools kids had been bitten. I am not on the side of that at all but sometimes one good reasonable punishment may do more good and save us from a bit of crime. I feel sorry for lots of teachers who has to keep up with badly behaving lads/girls

hard to decide without the full facts. Did the kids play along at the time, then tell thier parents later?
Pretty silly thing to do but if the children are unharmed and there was no intention to hurt them - it could be an overreaction
